More North Gallery Trees Wall by KOKO Architecture + Design

MORE NORTH GALLERY

In their award winning design for the More North Gallery in Tribeca, KOKO incorporated a sophisticated yet playful children’s enrichment room into a modern art exhibition gallery space, using organic materials and minimalist design reflecting the esthetic of the Scandinavian art gallery More North. KOKO’s widely published 4000 square foot design received the Will Ching Interior Design Award as well as the Interior Design Magazine Award.

KOKO created a distinctive gallery space for More North that offers the sense of calm and serenity long identified with Nordic countries and their artistic traditions. Features include white concrete floors and floating paper-thin metal walls. 25-foot tall birch trees connect the ground floor with the lower level children’s gallery.

The children’s space was imagined as a whimsical woodland fantasy escape infused with Swedish inspired materials, craft and furniture. It began as an add-on for the gallery, but quickly became the most iconic, published and “pinned’’ element of More North. Recycled and sustainable materials, including composite flooring and recycled painted steel, were utilized throughout the space.
